This simulator, DSENDS (Dynamics Simulator for Entry, Descent and Surface landing), is an EDL-specific extension of a JPL multi-mission simulation toolkit (Darts/Dshell) which is capable of modeling spacecraft dynamics, devices, and subsystems, and is in use by interplanetary and sciencecraft missions such as Cassini, Galileo, SIM, and Starlight. DSENDS is currently in use by the JPL Smart Lander project [1] to provide a high-fidelity testbed for the test of precision landing and hazard avoidance functions for future Mars missions.

The spacecraft simulator robust control through H∞-based linear matrix inequality (LMI) and robust adaptive method is implemented. The spacecraft attitude control subsystem simulator consists of a platform, an air-bearing and a set of four reaction wheels. This set up provides a free real-time three degree of freedom rotation. Spacecraft simulators are applied in upgrading and checking the c...

Future Madplanets explorations call forp recision and even pinpoint landing. Low cost optical correlatori s one of the promising enabling technologies for pinpoint landing. JPL has developed a state-of-the-art miniature optical correlator (MOC) to demonstrate its feasibility. In this paper, we describe a simulation testbed underd evelopment for measuring MOC’s perfonnance in a high-fidelity ent...

In this paper, a quaternion-based finite-time sliding mode attitude controller is designed for a spacecraft performing high-thrust orbital maneuvers, with cold gas thrusters as its actuators. The proposed controller results are compared with those of a quaternion feedback controller developed for the linearized spacecraft dynamics, in terms of settling time, steady-state error, number of thrust...
